Specs Removal Beyond LASIK & SMILE
Introduced in India
3 Types of Specs Removal Options
In laser procedures, a laser is used to change the curvature of Cornea (the front transparent dome shaped structure) so as to focus the light on the Retina (the back of the eye)
Laser based procedures offer high safety and accuracy and are most commonly performed specs removal procedures
97% of specs removal procedures are laser based procedures.
LENS IMPLANT PROCEDURES
In lens implant procedures, a special micro thin lens, having the power of your spectacles is implanted over the natural lens of the eye.
Lens implant procedures are usually advised when somebody is not fit for laser based procedures. Such may include individuals with thin corneas, dry eyes, very high numbers etc.
Since the micro thin lens (Phakic IOL) is placed over the natural lens, it does not disturb the natural autofocus mechanism of the eye.
EVO Visian ICL
Lens exchange procedures are also very commonly known as Refractive Lens Exchange or RLE.
In these procedures, the natural lens of the eye is replaced by an artificial lens having the power of both natural lens and spectacles.
These are usually advised when somebody is not fit for both laser and lens implant procedures.
It can be done with a
Monofocal lens - will provide good vision for distance and for near, reading glasses are required
Multifocal lens - will provide good vision for near and distance.

EVOLUTION OF LASER PROCEDURES
Types of Laser Procedures
Contoura Vision is the latest US-FDA-approved technology for specs removal. Contoura Vision offers 2 more advantages over LASIK and SMILE. While LASIK and SMILE correct your specs number, Contoura Vision, in addition to treating your specs number, also corrects your corneal irregularities and works on the Visual Axis (the natural seeing axis of the eye). This leads to much sharper and much enhanced high-definition visual outcomes, impossible to achieve with older techniques like LASIK & SMILE. Contoura Vision surgery cost in India is also affordable compared to other countries such as France and Germany.

SMILE is a step second to Contoura Vision. It is also very popularly known as "Flapless LASIK". In SMILE technology, only one laser known as femtosecond laser is used. The laser cuts out a slice of tissue (Lenticule) which is then pulled out through a small opening to induce vision correction. SMILE is around for almost 5 years now and just acquired its US-FDA approval in 2017. The results of SMILE in Hyperopia (Plus Numbers) and Pure Cylinders (Astigmatism) are mixed, so currently the technology is used primarily for Myopic (Minus Numbers) corrections till additional research is completed for full use.

LASIK has been around for more than 25 years and the advanced version "Blade-Less LASIK" has been around for more than 10 years. Blade-Less LASIK is considered as a minimum standard for someone opting for laser vision correction. Blade-Less LASIK involves 2 lasers. First, a Femtosecond Laser (Microkeratome blade in conventional LASIK) is used to create a flap and then another laser, Excimer Laser is used to change the curvature of cornea to induce vision correction. Blade-Less LASIK is also very popularly known as iLASIK, zLASIK, Femto LASIK, All Laser LASIK etc
LASIK and Blade-Less LASIK are being offered by all leading Eye Hospitals in Delhi
PRK / ASA
PRK was the first attempt by mankind to induce vision correction by lasers. Currently PRK is used in very specific cases such as thin corneas and SMILE re-treatments. in PRK, no flap is created and laser is directly applied to the surface of cornea. Since flap acts as a bandage and PRK is performed without the flap, the recovery in PRK uncomfortable and sometimes painful. Also the recovery is prolonged and takes about 10 - 20 days to fully recover. Sometimes recovery from PRK can be uneven and patient can present with variation to zero correction. ASA is an advanced form of PRK. StreamLight is the latest technique offering no flap, no touch advantages.
PRK / ASA is being offered by all leading Eye Hospitals in Delhi
EPI CONTOURA / STREAMLIGHT
Epi Contoura / Streamlight Laser is special advanced technique of laser specs removal used in patients not eligible for Contoura Vision specially in those having thin corneas. Epi Contoura procedure is 100% blade-free, 100% cut free, 100% flap free, 100% touch less. Epi Contoura procedure does not involve creating a flap, it does not leave any scar hence it cannot be detected on slit lamps and other routine eye checkups and with special no touch technique it has become a preferred choice for people into sports or those applying for government medicals like navy, police, army, airforce, railways etc
Epi Contoura / Streamlight laser is being offered by all centres offering Contoura Vision

ICL (Phakic IOL)
ICLs are micro thin lenses implanted over the eye's natural lens to induce vision correction. ICL is similar to a contact lens, just that a contact lens has to be worn daily and ICL is permanently implanted in the eye. ICL is usually advised for candidates not suitable for Laser Vision Correction. Such may include individuals with dry eyes, thin corneas, and very high numbers beyond correction limits of laser procedures.
ICLs are being offered by all leading Eye Hospitals in Delhi
RLE is also known as Refractive Lens Exchange. In this procedure, the natural lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial lens, having the power of both a natural lens and spectacles. It is usually advised when somebody is not fit for Laser and Lens Implant procedures. A patient can choose the design and quality of the lens and the procedure can be done with a mono-focal, multifocal or toric lens.
